1. Introduction

If you are getting some abnormal noise. There could be many reasons for it.

Issue could be diagnosed with some of followings questions 

  • Type of sound (Squeaking, Creaking, groaning, grinding, wind etc.)
  • location (Front, Rear of the car, from tire, brakes etc)
  • When it comes (At which speed, road condition, over bumps, when driving forward, reverse, turning the steering wheel etc)

2. Control Arms

One of reason could be problem with Control Arms.

2.1 How to diagnose (Symptoms)

You might be getting noise (Squeaking, Creaking etc.) when you are rotating steering, uneven surface, bump etc.

2.2 Why it could happen?

After certain period of time or kilometer/miles, ball joints became dry, control arms worn out and its time to replace.

2.3 How to Fix

In most of cases, sounds comes from Ball Joint. There is grease in Ball Joint. It is not possible to insert/grease because ball joints are sealed with rubber. You need to replace Upper Control arm. 2.4 Cost

3. Bushing

There could be problem with Bushing.

Bushing could be worn out, crack etc.

4. Brakes and Wheel

4.1 How to diagnose (Symptoms)

If you are hearing a groaning, grinding, or scraping sound coming from brakes or wheels while driving (even at very low speed).

4.2 What could be the reason?

There might be derbies or rock between the Brake Rotor & Brake Shield.( Source Tesla)

5. Brake Pad Squealing Sound

Brake Pads are equipped with wear indicators. A wear indicators is a think metal strip attached to brake pads. It rubs against rotor and make squealing sound when brake pads are wear down. It need to check Brake Pads and if needed, need to replace. (Source: Tesla User Manual Page 79)

6. Wheel Bearing

There could be problem with wheel Bearing.

6.1 How to diagnose (Symptoms)

You might getting vibration, loud noise.

7. Motor

7.1 How to diagnose (Symptoms)

If you get strange sounds from motor when you press accelerator or when car is idle. It may be signal to replace Drive Unit Bearing.

One of reason could be that bearing are worn out.

8. Wind Noise
