Tesla "Remote Diagnosis and Repair" Guide, Cost, How to Do

1. Introduction

If you are getting Alerts on screen and would like to do remote diagnosis. To perform remote diagnosis, workshop need following details:

  1. Your car VIN number
  2. Tesla registered E-Mail Address of the Car Owner

2. How it Work

  • Workshop/technician submits an access request via Toolbox (Tesla Diagnosis Software)
  • Car owner gets an email from noreply-toolbox@teslamotors.com to click a link to approve the use of diagnosis software on their car for specific period.
  • Car owner can authorize a workshop/technician to access service information and actions for up to 1 week.
  • Car Owner can authorize access shortly before an appointment.
  • Car owner can revoke the access at any time.

3. Which Remote Online Services are possible

Once the car owner approve/authorize the request. Some of following services could be performed remotely

  • Workshop/technician can view live signal and alert information. 
  • Remote Repair commands - execute car commands
  • CAN Explorer - retrieve, view signals and alerts previously set on the car

4. Which Online Services can be offered

  • Workshop can perform remote diagnosis with Tesla Diagnosis Software (Toolbox)
  • Workshop can read Fault/Alert/Error codes and other data
  • Can perform Firmware/calibration updates
  • Workshop will provide you the results.
  • Workshop can also offer technical support and recommendations depend on the diagnostic results.
  • Can offer guided diagnosis
  • Can check car status and powertrain health.
