1. Introduction

1.1 How to check Leakage

  • Easiest way to check with Speed Sensor (Rotor encoder sensor).
  • Visually inspect for signs of condensation, moisture and/or corrosion

1.2 Why its important to fix if there is any leakage

  • to avoid more damage
  • to avoid expensive repair in the future

1.3 What could happen if not fixed?

  • It could damage whole drive unit and need to repair whole drive unit which could cost around 7,600 (Cost could vary depend on Model).
  • It could seize motor and stop working.
  • It could rust the rotor
  • It could destroy the electronics in the inverter.

2. How to Fix

2.1 Coolant Delete

If you are having Model S or X. You might need to perform Coolant Delete.

  • Tesla Model S 2012-2014
  • Tesla Model S and X 2015-2020, Performance versions only, rear drive motor only
  • Tesla Cars with Large Drive Unit
