Tesla "Park assist unavailable" Guide to Fix it

1.1 What does this alert mean?

Park Assist system has detected a fault that prevents to operate park assistance system the way it should work.

2. How to Diagnose

This alert could come because of one or more system/feature/sensor is disabled/faulty. It need to check additional alerts to find out the cause of this alert. It is possible to find out the exact cause via Remote Diagnosis, Service Mode.

2.3 Service Mode

It could be possible to do self diagnose via Service Mode.

How to read service alerts in Service Mode

  • On the touchscreen, click Controls > Software
  • Touch and hold the large word "MODEL" for 4 seconds and then release.
  • Enter "service" as access code.
  • After clicking on Service Alerts. You can read service alerts. If there is anything wrong with car. It will show in active alerts.
You could also check Service Mode > Driver Assist > Sensors

After clicking on sensors, you should be able to see in red if something is not working as expected. Please read more details in another guide (How to do diagnosis) Link

3. How to Fix it

Some of alert could come because of software bugs. Some of alert could resolve after restarting the system, software update/reinstall. In some case, car might need hardware (sensor, harness) repair.

3.1 Restart System

Some of alert could resolve after restarting the touchscreen or power of the car.

Restart Touchscreen

Firstly, you could try with soft reset (restart touchscreen)

How to restart soft reset (restart touchscreen)

  • Please shift car into park.
  • Hold down both scroll buttons on the steering wheel until the touchscreen turns black.
  • Please wait approximately 30 seconds for the touchscreen to restart.

Powering Off the Car

If soft reset (restart touchscreen) have not resolved the alert/issue. You could try hard reset (Powering Off the car).  

  • Please shift car into park
  • On the touchscreen please touch Controls > Safety > Power Off
  • Please wait for at least for two minutes without interacting with the car. Please do not open the doors, touch the brake pedal, touch the touchscreen etc.
  • After 2 minutes, please press the brake pedal or open the door to wake the car (Source Tesla)

3.2 Software issue

Some of alert could be related to software issue.

Software Bug and Glitches

One of reason could be problem with software bug and glitches. Did you get this alert after updating recent software version? If yes, it could be related with software bug and could resolve with future software update. Please send us Service Alert screenshot. So we will inform you if it could be related to software bug. Link

Firmware not updated

One of main reasons could be that firmware is not updated. Have you checked recent update and updated to recent version? If not, we recommend you to do that. Please read more details in another guide. Link

Hardware Issue

There could be some hardware faulty. Some of common hardware issues could be followings:

Recent Repair/Service

Did this alert pop up after recent repair/service? If yes, please let us know which repair/service was done recently. Some alerts could pop up if repair/service is not done in proper way. If system/alert has not be reset. Did you use aftermarket/used part?

3.4 Camera are blocked/blinded

It might be that camera are not clean. You might need to clean cameras. Please check our another guide for more details (how to clean camera, where is camera located etc.) Link

Where are Park Sensor located

Model Y and 3 has total 12 sensors. There are 6 front and 6 sensors at rear. In below Image, you can see 6 front & 6 rear rear sensor location with red dots.

3.5 Sensor

One of reason could be problem with sensor.

There are some methods to check if there is problem with sensors.

  1. Self diagnose via Service Mode
  2. Sound Test

3.5.1 Service Mode

It is possible to diagnose via Service Mode. Please have a look in another guide (how to do enable Service Mode).

Touchscreen: Service Mode > Driver Assist > Sensors

In case, if all sensors are working correctly. You will be able to see with green.

How to read alert for diagnosis 

In Alert, you will also be able to find out which sensor number is not working. In this case, number 4 is not working.

3.5.2 Sound Test

When car is in drive mode and if sensor is working correctly. It will create static pulsating noise. When someone put ear on sensor. In case if you are not able to listen noise. There could be chances that sensor is bad/faulty.

3.6 Wire Harness

One of reason could be loose, damaged, unplugged wire or connector. Mouse might have eaten some wire. Please find out more details about Harness. Harness details.

3.7 Misplaced Sensor 

Please check if there is any sensor pushed into the bumpers or sensor position has been moved.

3.8 Wrong (not correct type) Sensor

One of reason could be that car has wrong sensor. In case, if you have recently replaced sensor and if they are not correct type of sensor for your car model. Please make sure that you have used correct sensor. If you need support to check, buy correct sensor. Please contact us.

Soft Reset

After replacing sensor, vehicle need to run some order.
